Quote of the Day 6/13/13

Unconsciousness does not mean lack of consciousness. It means a consciousness which is subterranean, which has been pushed very deep within you as a result of living. Sometimes the actor says, “A thing like that never happened to me,” whereas, if you happen to know his life, you know it actually did happen. How could he possibly have forgotten? Usually the things that are important, especially if they have painful for certain other connotations, are pushed back into the unconscious; otherwise life would be too difficult. Nonetheless these deep-seated things are active, so appealing to the subconscious does not mean involving something of which one has no awareness. It means dealing with an area of consciousness that is not easily or quickly evoked, but which we must find ways and means of getting to.”
